Anorexia nervosa is characterized by self-starvation to avoid obesity. People with this disorder believe they are overweight, even when their bodies become grotesquely distorted by malnourishment. Clinicians who treat eating disorders (ED) are bound to include patients with significant trauma histories, as a wide variety of traumatic experiences are associated with ED symptoms and related disorders.
